Dallas Baptist University Horner Ballpark

FJW Construction was selected to build the new Dallas Baptist University ballpark designed by one of the leading sport-venue design firms, HKS. The new ballpark can now house over 2,000 spectators and includes four guest suites, a pavilion near left field for large groups, and party plazas along both sides of the concourse. The concourse level includes a state-of-the-art press box, two radio booths, a TV booth, a ticketing area, restrooms and locker rooms, concessions, fan clothing store and storage areas. Batting tunnels were built at the first level under the concourse along with new coaches’ offices, a meeting room with video capabilities, and a reception area. An additional14500 SF of shell space was included for future improvements. A new all-weather Astroturf infield was added along with state-of-the-art field lighting that provides excellent visibility for player, spectators and television broadcasting. Other technology incorporated includes, closed-circuit televisions throughout the park and a high tech sound system to broadcast play by play action of the game throughout the facility, including each restroom and suite.

The FJW team worked diligently to overcome several challenges including the fact that the project was over-budget before construction even began due to a number of items that were added to the project, some costly high-end design elements, and some unforeseen underground conditions. In addition, custom seating, which typically takes six months to procure, was obtained in half that time due to the hard work and diligence of FJW team members and were installed even as most in the industry said it would be impossible.

The project was successfully completed in time for the home opener. FJW is proud to have provided a new facility that elevates Patriot Field to a Tier I status and greatly enhances the student experience.
