Somerset Independent School District

FJW Construction was selected to build the new Science Classroom Building, also known as the Science Lab Addition, at Somerset High School. The 8,100 SF the science building will be broken up into four classrooms with acid waste basin tanks under each sink and built-in casework, a mechanical platform spanning across the building to hold electrical and HVAC components, and a double-check and fire demand meter with water/sewer/gas.

FJW is also constructing a water quality pond, grading, and exterior sidewalk. Adjacent to the site, we are replacing Softball Alley (asphalt) and adding additional infrastructure to the Shop Building.

In order to bring the construction cost back down to the budget after the project had been bid out, our team performed Value Engineering to the MEP systems. We found that the systems were over-designed for a classroom and were able to save over $400,000.

The project is currently under construction, and although the completion date was originally December 2010, we have optimized the schedule and expect to be completed early, in October 2010.
