Ferguson Enterprises New Distribution Center - Frostproof, Florida

Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. (FEI) is the nation’s largest wholesale plumbing distributor. Our team was selected by FEI based on our superb performance on previous distribution centers across the US.

This new 525,000 GSF Distribution Center is located on a greenfield site south of Orlando and is comprised of a shallow foundation system, conventional structural frame, non-load bearing concrete tilt-up wall panels with insulated metal panels on the expansion wall, a high volume ESFR fire protection system that required an on-site fire water storage tank, and high tolerance floor slabs which average ff=50, fl=35. In addition, extensive site development required over 500,000 CY of material to be moved to create the building pad and three large detention ponds.

We are a relationship-driven company. As such, our teams often performed services outside typical construction tasks. On this particular project we:

  • We assisted with the feasibility/site analysis process by providing construction budget estimates. This was a complex transaction as the property had to be consolidated from five separate land owners.
  • We worked with the Florida Department of Transportation to coordinate the design and construction to widen the state road in front of the facility, as well as to add a center turn lane and acceleration lanes.
  • We advised the owner that the grass seeding specified was not a good choice for the area, but installed it at their request on a trial basis. When the grass seed did not germinate after a full season of rainfall, we worked with the landscape firm and the University of Florida Agricultural Extension group and proposed a modified seeding mixture more native to that environment. This was all coordinated long after our team had demobilized from the site. The new seed mixture worked and the client now has the beautiful green lawn envisioned.

We take pride in using and involving local subcontractors wherever we work. On this project, this proved to be a great benefit to the owner as we saved almost $750k through value engineering by replacing the pad’s stone base with compacted sand subgrade, as is the common practice in the area.
