State-of-the-art eye surgery facility completed for Kleiman Evangelista
Feb 24, 2015

FJW Construction provided construction manager-at-risk services on the new Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center in Arlington, Texas, a 28,200 square foot surgical eye center facility that combines vision technologies with a patient-focused environment.  The center provides patient exam rooms, labs, and waiting areas along with 4 fully licensed operating rooms, 8 pre-op and 6 post-op beds.  The facility hosts the first LASIK practice in Tarrant County to offer the IntraLase iFS Femtosecond Laser, which allows surgeons to provide a customized "all-laser" solution. The Kleiman Evangelista Eye Center will also be using proprietary new "patient navigation" technology, which tracks each patient in the facility, letting loved ones know exactly where they are and what stage of the care process they are in at all times.

At the 85% documents stage, FJW identified $868,641 in value engineering savings in order to deliver the project at the initially targeted budget.  These measures  included extensive changes to the unique roofing and ceilings of the facility.  The vaulted structural steel and timber framing with glass, exterior metal panels and sunscreens are hallmarks of the building, and maximizing their presence at the front of the facility (and reducing them from the rear, where they would be less visible) helped achieve the budget.  In addition, subtle changes to the secondary waiting areas created significant savings.  This innovative facility was completed on schedule, under  budget, and is hosting its grand opening on February 26th.
