Our team was selected for this first project at Dallas Baptist University based on our qualifications and competitive pricing. However, the client was so pleased by the commitment of our people, the quality of our product and the savings generated due to our delivery processes that they have subsequently awarded us numerous additional projects on various different campuses.
Immediately upon award of this new 11,000 GSF Academic Learning Center, we performed a design evaluation as part of our pre-construction services. It was found that the building was over-designed, particularly the structure.
The building's structure was comprised of two story steel framing over concrete grade beams and slab-on grade foundation. The second floor was typical concrete slab on elevated metal decking. Structural steel cat walks allow attic and cupola access. The exterior façade consisted of brick and cut stone with residential style door and window openings. Slate facsimile shingles comprise the roofing material and are placed over pre-fabricated light gauge metal framing and steel decking. By right-sizing the builing, the client was able to obtain substantial savings on the construction of the project.
The new facility is a full-service academic center comprised of four classrooms equipped with the very latest leading-edge educational technologies with space to accommodate more than 20 classes per semester. As this facility is located on the new Hurst-Colleyville campus in Hurst, Texas, this facility also provides office space for the DBU Hurst-Colleyville staff.
